Walton, Brian
(c. 1600–61)
   Bishop and Biblical Scholar.
   Walton was educated at the University of Cambridge and he was ordained to the Anglican ministry. A supporter of Archbishop laud, he was imprisoned by the Commonwealth Government for a short time and, with the Restoration, he became Bishop of Chester in 1660. He is remembered as the editor of the Biblia Sacra Polyglotta, which provided versions of the Bible in nine languages. A notable work of scholarship, it has never been superseded.
